Pretty Palettes :: Jubilee Necklace

Jubilee Necklace by Molly Schaller
It's time for Pretty Palettes! If you've been following along on the Halcraft blog, you know what I'm talking about. Each month Erin Prais-Hintz presents a gorgeous color palette for anyone who wants to participate to use as inspiration for a piece of jewelry or accessory. She uses beads from the Bead Gallery line available at Michaels Stores.

This month's palette was out of my normal color range. It uses reds and pinks and a golden cream.
Sarah Hearts blog created this great color palette; learn more here: http://sarahhearts.com/2013-02-06/red-pink-beige/
Here's my entry, which I call Jubilee. She's sweet, fun, and a little bit racy. Do you think that's because of the colors or the shape or the sparkling facets of the beads? I tried a few different pinks in there with the reds, but I couldn't make it work. Did anyone else have this problem?

Another great thing about Jubilee is that you can make her for under $25, and you'll have beads and chain left over, too--enough to make a bracelet or two or even a second necklace.

Quick tip:

If you're having a hard time making a necklace like this work, where the beads nestle between one another in a fringe effect, you might have to adjust the length of your connecting eye pins. For example, notice the eye pins that are bare between the first "level" of beads. I used the width of my chain-nose pliers to measure out that space before I bent them at a 90-degree angle to make the second loop. This allows the beads to hang freely and creates visual space between the larger beads.

Thanks for following along! I can't wait to see what everyone else made! Click here to see what Erin made on the Halcraft Inspiration Blog!

  1. Pretty necklace, Molly :) Sometimes it is good to have a colour imposed, the limitation can have wonderful results!

    1. Thank you, Monique! I had a great time making it, but I still want to make something that uses pink, too. You're right about the limitation of color being inspiring!
